The Valnerina is a valley in South-Estern Umbria located at the border with Marche and Lazio regions. It has been created by the Nera river, a placid stream of water originating from the Sibillini Mountains and extending for 116 kms before it flows into the Tiber river. Right before crossing the city of Terni, the Nera river receives the water of the Velino, another river flowing across the valley of Rieti, at the Marmore Falls. This is are the highest fall of Europe and have been artificially created by the Romans in 3rd century b.C. when they decided to dig a channel in the upper valley - which had turned into a large marsh - letting the water jump into the Nera flowing in the valley below.
Vanerina and Marmore Falls offer the opportunity to practise different type of water rafting: from soft-rafting - apt also for families with children - along calm sections of the river, before it receives the water from the Falls, to the extreme and thrilling experience of white-water rafting descent into wild nature starting right at the feet of Marmore Falls.
